One night at dinner with a number of friends, a tall, slim guy with light brown permed hair came up to the table and said, "Hey, guys, what's up?" We all stared at him, seeing a complete stranger....until it hit us all at about the same moment: IT WAS MY OWN BROTHER! I was speechless, a bit of a first due to a bit of shock, but one of our close, mutual friends blurted out, "What'n the hell did ya do to your hair??!!" He was almost unrecognizable. Needless to say, this A. Kinda pissed my bro off, so any hope of his returning to his bland, straight hair was buried deep, at least for while, and B. Caused an immense amount of laughter, gales of it, as he turned bright red. A girl was the cause of it, turned out, and when they broke up sometime later, he kept it permed for a while just to show us he wasn't whipped. Like we hadn't a clue. Right.

Drew Carey...the later years!
But here's my story: I once had a balding boyfriend who dumped me because he had the (misplaced) idea that all women wanted him and exclusivity was keeping them from enjoying his wonderfulness. Within a few weeks he had permed his hair and was wearing a gold medallion. He looked like a poodle in cheap jewelry. Praise the powers that be, I dodged a bullet on that one!

Hilarious perm stories! I think most men from this time period don't want to admit that they had fallen victim to the Mike Brady perm trend. Worse than just an overall perm though, my brother, who is a bit older than me, did the mullet perm where just the back was curled.

I used to have that old-timey Sears Catalog wallpaper in my room! Today that would be vintage retro wallpaper. Or is it just double-retro?

Did you pick that wallpaper for your room or was it a decorating whim of your mom's? Either way, I like it!

Those two men look eerily like my dad and late grandfather. 0_0
