Dear Mom and Dad

022208letter

I was going through family photos trying to find some images for my parent's memorial in Indiana. I found this note among my mother's albums. I was in third grade when I wrote it. I was excited about a carnival. I think I was trying to be clever by asking them to lend me money, as if I could ever pay it back. And then, to add icing to the cake, I ended the letter with I love you. The clincher. Worked every time.

Antique Car Show, 1960

020408car12

These slides came from the estate sale of a gentleman who collected and sold antique cars. He documented various car shows and also collected old auto ephemera, some of which we purchased. The Mercedes photo is also from the same estate.

Giggle Room

020108laugh2

This set of photos came from an estate sale. It's not often that I find a cabinet card with a smiling person. I like that the family purchased both the serious shot and the happy one. Was it intentional that the girl is laughing? Her mom is serious in both shots, so I like to think that the girl was just being a kid and got a case of the giggles.

Love Mate

020108ar2

Found in a teen girl's scrapbook. Obtained at a 1941 fair which she attended with a guy named Bill. I'm guessing that these cards were dispensed from some sort of penny arcade machine. The bottom is stamped, Copr. 1941 Ex. Sup. Co., Chgo.
